Big Fish
It's fair to say that that the Leven is only a shadow of it's former self in terms of catches and the size of the fish that have been caught. Thanks to Jack Ferguson I have acquired an image of one of the biggest fish ever caught on the Leven. The fish weighed in at just over 33lb and was caught in May 1992, at the factory wall, on the spinner. The "lucky" angler is well known on the river as "Old Rab". I was personally lucky enough to witness the landing of the fish. The fish was well proportioned and a magnificent specimen of a springer. The colouring and the sheen of the fish was first class. Indeed the image, good as it is, does not capture the full splendor of the fish. It is important to somehow show the size of the fish in relation to a recognizable object and the way that Rab is holding it up does that just nicely. It is a fish that he can be justly proud of and proves that he once "done the business" and doesn't just talk about it! I don't think that a fish like this will be bettered on the river in the future. Rab has informed me that the measurements of the fish were length wise 44 inches and girth 24 inches.
